New Members Classes are offered in the Spring and the Fall each year.
“For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in the one Spirit we were all baptized into one body–Jews or Greeks, slaves or free–and we were all made to drink of one Spirit… Indeed, the body does not consist of one member but of many. Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.” – 1 Corinthians 12:12-13, 27
We are all members of the Body of Christ, His Church! We find great joy whenever someone seeks to join us in membership, as we are all sisters and brothers in Christ! We offer two Friendship/New Member Sundays, one in the Spring and the other during Advent when we will formally welcome and enter into covenant with the newest members of our church family.
Are You Interested in Joining First Congregational Church of Rowley, United Church of Christ? Then come to a New Members Class and learn about our church’s history, mission and ministry and how you can be a part of our growing congregation.
You will learn about First Congregational Church of Rowley and our denomination, the United Church of Christ through materials and informational videos. There will be discussion about what it means to be a member of our faith community and what it means to make the commitment to become a member. There will be ample time for questions and answers as part of the sessions.
After the classes are held, candidates for membership will next meet with the Diaconate at their next scheduled monthly meeting. There, the New Member Candidates will hear from the Deaconesses and Deacons about their personal experiences of belonging to a church and what it has meant to them in their lives.
According to our Congregational Tradition, the Diaconate recommends the New Member Candidates to the Congregation, where they are voted in as full members. On New Members/Friendship Sunday, the new members are formally welcomed into the church family during a covenantal ceremony that is part of our worship service.
